Nice post and I totally agree with you that efficiency is way over-due as a focus area of the cleantech movement. I'm not sure whether even this type of project will get passed the corporate finance folks in a recessionary environment (probably depends on the payback period), but it certainly has a better shot than more speculative projects.

Also, maybe you've seen McKinsey's marginal cost curve for carbon abatement?

Among other outstanding insights in this work is the fact that there are a large number of efficiency opportunities that show up as negative marginal cost tactics meaning that they would be *positive* NPV projects for businesses to carry out. All this does is reinforce your point that efficiency continues to be a win-win opportunity that we need to educate more businesses (and consumers) about.
